The Journey of a Story: Idea to Book with C.S.Sidaway

Our guest for this month’s Books and Beverages was Colin Sidaway, who is a prolific author with ten books published and another ten ready for publication. However this time he focussed on one novel, the intriguingly named ‘Tango Times’.

Colin started his presentation with an explanation about how tango emerged from the impoverished ports in Argentina and Uruguay, and how he started lessons five years ago, declaring  that tango is probably the most difficult social dance to learn after ballet. He also informed us that a gentleman must never turn down a lady who asks him to dance. Fascinating stuff.

He then moved onto his novel, which begins with a character sitting on a plane. Told in retrospect, the story is based in and around the University of Warwick, as Colin knows the area very well. The main character Lawrence Fox looks after the fabric of the university, where he meets academic Karen Black at a function. They take up tango lessons despite Karen’s disdain for his lowly occupation. I will give away no more. This is definitely a novel for lovers of romance and dance.
