Writing Romance with Helen C Kelly

As all lovers know, February 14 is St Valentine’s Day so what better way to start February than by talking to romantic novelist Helen Kelly about her books. She started by reading a chapter from her first book ‘A Special Place’, set in the fictional village of Greengrove.

Helen has now published two books in the her Greengrove series, the third has just been sent for editing, and the plot for the fourth is currently bubbling away, waiting for Helen to put words onto paper. Unusually for romantic novels, she gives both her male and female lead characters a voice so the stories unfold by sharing both of their thoughts and feelings.

Greengrove incorporates many of the buildings and geographical features of villages she has seen on her travels but she is also writing a story set in Escrick near York. This is an impressive output, even more so when you know that Helen is dyslexic. She spoke movingly and openly about her struggle to overcome dyslexia, and made us all smile when she claimed the reason she finally became a writer was because she is stubborn!

An appreciative audience enjoyed listening to Helen speak and if you missed it, you can watch the full interview, as well as our others, on YouTube @booksandbeveragesUK
